Hi there guys. I’m here tonight with a new article, this time on DLC amiibo! I’m going to be taking guesses as to how the unreleased DLC amiibo will act in training. One day, when we have amiibo of these characters, I’m going to look back on this post and see if I was right in my predictions or not. This is purely speculation, so please don’t take any of it as fact. Let’s begin!
Mewtwo: This is a tough one to predict. Mewtwo’s one of the worst characters in the game due to his sluggish moveset and because his Side B and Down B aren’t very good. He’s also light and tall, which is really bad as far as attacks go. He has a high frame, meaning he’ll get hit by attacks that shorter characters won’t. But you know who else fits the description of light and tall? Zelda. And she’s also one of the worst characters in the game, but her amiibo is still quite potent. Mewtwo’s back throw is strong, so he at least has that. As for true combos, I’m not sure Mewtwo has any of them that start with a throw. Overall, Mewtwo may be a weak amiibo, but who knows, maybe he’ll pull a Zelda and show us the amiibo can be good!
Lucas: I honestly think that Lucas is going to be one of, if not the best amiibo. Maybe it’s my Mother 3 bias, but Lucas fixes all of the problems that Ness has. First, his PK Thunder won’t dissipate if someone or something hits it, so that makes him harder to take advantage of while he’s recovering. Second, and this may sound crazy, but his PK Thunder 2 dealing less damage is a good thing. Theoretically, the move would never hit another amiibo due to their defensive capabilities, so it’s not like he’s missing something. Ness’ PK Thunder 2 (PK Thunder 2 is when you launch yourself with the move) deals a ton of damage, and he likes to use it on-stage sometimes, which can get him killed if he misses or flies into a Counter. Lucas’ version also travels farther. He also still has true combos, being down throw to neutral aerial at low percentages and down throw to up air at high percentages. His up smash is the most powerful move in the game; a burst of PSI fueled by the despair he felt in his childhood-er, I mean, pure willpower. Yeah. Lastly, he has a tether grab, so he doesn’t have to use PK Thunder to recover if he’s just out of reach of the edge. As for cons, the first one is that he has a tether grab. This means if he misses the grab, it’s easier to punish him for it. Overall, I think Lucas will be a great amiibo and I can’t wait to get him!
Roy: I’m not too knowledgable on Roy, but it sounds like he’ll be a bit better than Marth. Whereas Marth’s sword deals more damage at its tip, Roy’s deals more damage at its hilt. This makes his smash attacks extra-powerful and excellent KO moves if they hit their victim at the sword’s hilt, and I think the amiibo will use this just fine. I can see Roy having a problem with using Flare Blade without charging it if you use it on him, so I’m going to guess that’s a move to avoid. Double-Edge Dance is very similar to Marth’s Dancing Blade, so I think Roy will use this move well similarly to Marth. Finally, he also has a counter that’s quite powerful. I think Roy will overall be a solid amiibo.
Ryu: Ryu is the most complicated of this lot. I’m going to compare him to the Shulk amiibo before it was released – we didn’t know if he’d be proficient in his Monado Arts or not (and it turns out he is). It’s sort of the same thing with the Ryu amiibo. We don’t know if he’ll be proficient with his inputs or not. If you don’t know, you can actually execute Ryu’s B moves without actually pressing the B button. For example, pressing Down to Right to Down-Right and then A will execute an extra-powerful Shoryuken, which is his #1 KO move. I think either way it’s going to be tough to train him, since you’ll have to teach him to use his inputs early on.
Anyway, that’s what I think of these amiibo. I hope you enjoyed reading this article. I’m going to look back on this article when these amiibo are released (and Mewtwo is coming out in November for the US) and see if I was right or not. In any case, thank you for reading. I’ll be back tomorrow with some new character guides!
