How to train a Mega Man amiibo in Super Smash Bros. 4

A complete summary of Mega Man’s performance in Super Smash Bros. 4 can be found on the character’s information page. It includes strengths and weaknesses, AI quirks, and an archive of tournament representation and results.

Stats & Bonus Effects

Mega Man’s best equipment setup involves a heavy focus on Defense (+40 Attack / +120 Defense / -40 Speed) at the cost of Speed. In terms of bonus effects, Improved launch ability, Auto-heal capability, and Improved escapability are essential.

Mega Man benefits from the Shadow Blade, Beat, and Plant Barrier custom moves. Shadow Blade functions as a boomerang-type projectile that can catch enemies off-guard with its second hit, Beat grants more control and increased vertical distance, and Plant Barrier boasts more durable petals.

Recommended Training

An amiibo becomes strongest if it is mirror matched all the way to Level 50. This is done to teach the AI which moves to rely on; after reaching Level 50, it will use this training as a base and expand upon it with matchup experience. While training your amiibo, do not play aggressively or go off-stage; instead, remain grounded and keep the following moves in mind:

  • Neutral options: jab (Mega Buster), down tilt (Sliding), neutral special (Shadow Blade), and side special (Crash Bomber). Mega Man’s jab is a quick multi-strike projectile that can be used either out of shield or in a neutral position. Down tilt is a fast sliding kick that moves Mega Man forward. Shadow Blade and Crash Bomber are best used from a distance to help to rack up chip damage from afar.
  • Main KO moves: up tilt (Mega Upper), forward smash (Charge Shot), and down smash (Flame Blast). Mega Man’s up tilt is fast, strong, and can catch enemies by surprise. It’s difficult to land, but works well with decisive timing. Forward smash is most effective when used at medium to far range, and is capable of gimping recovering opponents. Down smash is Mega Man’s most reliable close-ranged KO move, hitting on both sides with respectable power and speed.
