Hey guys! Welcome to the first issue of Amiibo Dojo Monthly, a newsletter of sorts that I’m going to try to write each month. We’ll talk about site updates, new guides, and happenings in the world of Nintendo, among other things. Let’s get started!
Table of Contents
- Section 1: Final Super Smash Bros. DLC is Released
- Section 2: Amiibo World Tournament #4
- Section 3: Amiibo Dojo February Plans
The big headline this month is the release of the final Super Smash Bros. DLC. We’ve got Corrin from Fire Emblem Fates and Bayonetta as the last new fighters, as well as one more stage – Umbra Clock Tower. It’s very sad indeed to see the Smash developers disband, but the sheer amount of content they’ve provided their fans is astounding and not at all a small feat.
Will Corrin and Bayonetta be good amiibo?
Of course, there’s no way to tell how “good” a certain character’s amiibo will be if we don’t have access to it. At the time of writing, we don’t even have prototype images for the Corrin and Bayonetta amiibo. But you know me – I like to speculate.
Corrin:
- I think Corrin has overwhelming potential for a few reasons. First up, he’s got a killer forward smash that has a ton of range, and even has a hitbox while charging. This hitbox can catch opponents and trap them long enough that they’ll be struck by the fully charged smash attack. Because of this unique property, I believe that the Hyper smash attacks bonus will be really good on Corrin. Next, he has one of the best counters in the game, called Counter Surge. What makes this move great is the fact that it covers both sides of Corrin, and launches opponents upwards instead of to the side like other counterattacks. If Corrin is able to counter an attack that would have dealt over 40%, the foe will be instantly KO’d. This is huge in the amiibo training world, because amiibo are more than capable of dealing 40% in one hit. All in all, Corrin has a ton of potential in my eyes – I can’t wait to get this amiibo.
Bayonetta:
- I believe Bayonetta has relatively superior potential to be great as well! She has really large and strong smash attacks, which are very important for amiibo. And she also has a great counter move, Witch Time, which slows down her victims rather than dealing damage outright. This gives Bayonetta the opportunity to close in and attack. I think she’s got potential, though maybe not as much as Corrin.
If you haven’t heard, Amiibo Dan, a fellow trainer, hosts and streams tournaments that anyone can enter! Viewers can use an Amiibo Powersaves or NFC-compatible Android device to send in their amiibo’s data. With the help of an amiiqo device, Dan can battle these fan-submitted amiibo on his copy of Super Smash Bros.
This month is doubles month! The next Amiibo World Tournament starts on February 13th, which is this Saturday! I’ve personally entered my Bowser and Little Mac amiibo as a team. I admittedly did not do too much training, though, because I am mostly unfamiliar with doubles training. But, we’ll see how far they get! I’ll attempt to post a link to the livestream on the front page as the tournament happens.
Entries to submit your amiibo close tomorrow, the 10th. There’s going to be another tournament this month if I’m not mistaken, you can be sure that I’ll let you guys know about that one as well!
It’s time for the third and final section of Amiibo Dojo Monthly, where I go over the plans I have for this place this month. There’s a couple of things I’m planning on releasing this month, so here they are:
- [Update] Ness guide (Championship Edition)
This is nearly done. There’s not going to be much new information in this, admittedly, I’m moreso rewriting it for grammar and flow purposes, as well as some format changes. It will likely be complete in a day or two.
- [New] Peach training guide
This one’s been heavily requested, so it only makes sense that I do it at some point. This is very likely going to be the next new guide. Each guide takes 3 hours of training to do and 6 hours of writing. At the moment, I have about one hour of that training in, so it’ll be a few days before it’s done. You can expect this guide hopefully by the 17th of February.
- [Update] Pac-Man training guide
Amiibo Dojo’s current Pac-Man guide is horribly outdated, so I set high priority on bringing it up to speed. If all goes as planned, you’ll see this new guide on February 21st.
- [New] Sheik training guide
This is another heavily requested guide. I’m working on training my Sheik right now, though I only have spent around 30 minutes on the training itself so far. As long as nothing goes wrong, it should be out on February 24th.
- [Update] Duck Hunt training guide
This is the last guide I’m going to be releasing in February. You can expect to see it on the 28th of February.
So there you have it – those are my plans for this month. Between school, work, and the Dojo, I have barely any time for anything else, so bear with me. Guides take a lot of time! In any case, thanks for your continued support. See you around!
