Hey guys! It’s been a long time since I’ve hosted a tournament, but I’ve decided to hold Clash of Champions II on August 12th, 2016. I know that only gives people around a week to train, but this tourney is needed, and you’ll soon see why. What makes Clash of Champions II special is that S-Rank amiibo characters, Critical hits, and Explosive perfect shield are strictly banned. Click the “Continue Reading” button to read more!
As it stands, the amiibo training metagame is becoming stale. Not because people aren’t interested in it, but because the same characters keep winning. Personally, I’m tired of Bowser, I’m tired of Ganondorf, and I’m tired of Little Mac. I’m tired of uncharged smash attacks that deal 150%, and I’m tired of shield explosions that punish opponents for their every action. That’s why Clash of Champions II’s rules were designed to shake things up a bit and inspire creativity within amiibo trainers.
The Rules
One of the most notable rules here is that every S-Ranked character on the official amiibo tier list is banned. This includes Marth, Little Mac, Rosalina & Luma, Bowser, Lucario, Ness, Lucina, and Ganondorf. Anybody who sends in an S-Rank character will be disqualified, but if I catch the mistake in time, they’ll have a chance to send in someone else. Fighters in A Rank, B Rank, C Rank, and D Rank are all eligible for this tournament.
Another big change is the fact that Critical-hit capability and Explosive perfect shield are banned. These are two of the most common bonuses in the game – since I’m removing them, I hope that amiibo trainers are inspired to be creative with their amiibo’s bonus combination and point distribution. If an amiibo I receive has Critical-hit capability, I will change it to Lifesteal even if the character already has this bonus. If an amiibo I receive has Explosive perfect shield, I will change it to Mirror shield even if the character already has this bonus. Please note, if I have to change your amiibo’s bonuses, I may not tell you depending on how much time I have.
Other than the removal of Critical hits, Explosive perfect shield, and S-Rank characters, the tournament rules are quite standard. 2-stock, 6 minutes, best 2 out of 3. No items, omega stages only, and a double elimination bracket. That should be simple enough. And nope, unfortunately, there is no prize this time around.
How to enter the tournament
If you’re new here, you may be wondering how to enter the tourney if Nintendo hasn’t allowed amiibo to be used online. Well, here’s the deal: you will need either an Amiibo Powersaves or an NFC-compatible Android device in order to enter. In the case of the former, you’d hook the Powersaves hardware up to your PC, place your amiibo on top of it, and create a BACKUP. Then, look in your Users folder, click your username, then Powersaves for AMIIBO. You’ll find a .BIN file of the amiibo you saved a backup of – just send that .BIN file to amiibocloud@gmail.com and you’ll be good to go. If you don’t have an Amiibo Powersaves, but do have an NFC-compatible Android, check out this handy video guide by Amiibo Dan. It’s a bit old, but should still work just fine.
Conclusion
I hope you all take the time to enter Clash of Champions II! If you have any questions regarding the rules of this tournament, entering your amiibo, or just training your amiibo in general, you can fill out the contact form or shoot me an email at amiibocloud@gmail.com! Best of luck to everyone!
