As a remastered version of Mario Kart 8 on the ill-fated Wii U console, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe introduces a wealth of additional content to keep players interested. One of its notable changes is the removal of (most) hidden characters; even so, there are still a decent number of unlockables left for you to obtain.
Characters & Kart Parts
Unlike the original Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe unlocks all characters and tracks from the very beginning. Kart pieces, however, are received in the same way as the previous title (a random one is unlocked every 50 coins). But there are three specific kart pieces and one unlockable character that have different criteria:
- Gold Mario is a palette swap of Metal Mario and can be unlocked by clearing every cup with at least one star on 200cc difficulty. If you need help navigating this tricky mode, check out our guide on it.
- The Gold Standard is an unlockable kart that can be obtained by clearing every cup with at least one star in Mirror Mode.
- The Gold Tires can be unlocked by beating all of the staff ghosts in 150cc Time Trials. Fortunately, the majority of them are not difficult to beat, making this a very realistic goal.
