Mii Swordfighter has not seen much success in the Spirits metagame; this is because players shifted to vanilla play before the character was properly represented. Based on experimentation and common themes with other characters, it is not a far cry to predict that Mii Swordfighter benefits from Armor Knight and Move Speed ↑.

In terms of stats, Mii Swordfighter does not have the recovery potential to justify a fully defensive setup. Instead, running a balanced (2100 / 2100) or slightly defensive setup (1800 / 2400) is recommended.

The best combination of custom moves for Mii Swordfighter is Gale Strike, Chakram, Stone Scabbard, and Power Thrust. Custom moves do not need to be farmed in Ultimate; they are all unlocked from the beginning.

An amiibo becomes strongest if it is mirror matched all the way to Level 50 with its Learn button switched on. Playing a best-of-five match (configurable via the rules menu) will cause it to level up much faster.

  • Neutral attack: A three-hit combo that ends with an upward slash. It can potentially combo into other moves, but isn’t consistent enough for the Figure Player to effectively learn.
  • Forward tilt: Decent power and high speed. Alternate forward tilt and forward smash, prioritizing forward tilt in more time-sensitive situations.
  • Up tilt: An overhead arc. Solid defensive and anti-air move.
  • Down tilt: A powerful poke that can be used to edgeguard. It can follow up into a forward aerial. Important to teach for spacing.
  • Dash attack: Run-of-the-mill in terms of dash attacks. Decent ending lag and should be used sparingly, but has enough power to be worth throwing out on occasion.
  • Forward smash: Impressive range and knockback. Notable startup and ending lag, but serves as one of the character’s primary punish and KO options.
  • Up smash: It can be used against aerial opponents to keep them airborne and link into an up tilt, an up aerial, or another up smash.
  • Down smash: It can cover edge options and punish dodges, but should not be overused.
  • Neutral aerial: Reminiscent of Marth and Lucina’s down aerials. Excellent for edgeguarding and ducking through platforms.
  • Forward aerial: Awkward to land, but is quite powerful and useful for edgeguarding. Definitely a move to teach.
  • Back aerial: One of Mii Swordfighter’s more reliable kill moves. It should be taught both on-stage and off-stage.
  • Up aerial: Surprisingly strong and vital to the character’s success. Use it often.
  • Down aerial: It can be used off-stage to knock opponents downward (though it does not meteor smash victims). Outclassed by neutral aerial as an on-stage damage racker.
  • Forward throw: Only serves to create distance.
  • Back throw: See above.
  • Up throw: Doesn’t accomplish much. Avoid this one.
  • Down throw: Mii Swordfighter’s most useful throw. It can combo into an aerial at practically any percentage and leads into a powerful up aerial at high percentages. Practice these combos and teach them to the FP.
  • Neutral special (Gale Strike): It can be used from afar to combo into an up aerial, but is essentially useless as an off-stage interrupt. Use it sparingly, but often enough that the FP knows the move’s follow-ups.
  • Side special (Chakram): Its lingering hitbox can trap opponents and can protect Mii Swordfighter from incoming projectiles. Essential to the character’s success, but only when the enemy is at a distance.
  • Up special (Stone Scabbard): More reliable than Hero’s Spin, as it deals high damage and the AI uses it in an effective combo routine (which it learns by itself).
  • Down special (Power Thrust): Mii Swordfighter’s greatest neutral option and a must-have move for the character. Power Thrust can rack up damage and KO and should be used very frequently while grounded.
