Autumn / Tree’s Bounty DIY Recipes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the autumn season lasts from September 1 to December 10 — that means there’s a whole new wave of fall-themed DIY recipes to unlock. Hooray! You can craft autumn’s special furniture series using acorns, maple leaves, and pine cones. Pieces from this series are best suited for outdoor decoration — specifically, the leaf pile and leaf campfire items can spice up any area into a serene autumn landscape. Here’s how to obtain these recipes!

Shake Trees & Gather Leaves

Contrary to what you might expect, shaking trees does not give you the maple leaves you’ll need to craft certain pieces of furniture from this series. Instead, you’ll find these fluttering about, in which you’ll need to catch them with your net. Shaking hardwood trees has a chance of producing an acorn, while shaking cedar trees may produce a pine cone. You’ll have to shake these trees several times in a row, in some cases.

Here’s a helpful tip: if you live in the southern hemisphere, autumn recipes are available from March 1 to June 10 instead. As mentioned earlier, autumn takes place from September 1 to December 10 in the north hemisphere. You can’t obtain autumn DIY recipes at any other time of year, so keep this in mind!

Shoot Balloons

Here we go again. Indeed, the best way of gathering autumn DIY recipes is by shooting down balloons. Remember, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., balloons will spawn from either the west or east side of your island and then from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. they’ll switch sides. Balloons also spawn when the last digit of the current time reads 4 or 9, but it’ll often take them a minute or so to hover over dry land. Try not to let the presents fall into the water, because if they do they’ll be lost forever!

There’s also a small chance to find autumn DIY recipes from message bottles. These spawn every so often on the shores of your island, and you can find even more of them by visiting Nook Miles Ticket islands! That being said, waiting around for balloons to spawn is likely the faster farming method — the message bottles are sort of like extra bonuses. As stated earlier, popped balloons have somewhere around a 15% chance of dropping a new recipe. In other words, this is going to take a while.

Furniture List

There are a grand total of eighteen autumn recipes for you to find. These include the Acorn pochette, the Leaf campfire, the Pile of leaves, the Pine bonsai tree, the Traditional balancing toy, the Tree’s bounty arch, the Tree’s bounty big tree, the Tree’s bounty lamp, the Tree’s bounty little tree, the Tree’s bounty mobile, the Yellow-leaf pile, the Red-leaf pile, the Leaf stool, the Autumn wall, the Colored-leaves flooring, the Maple-leaf umbrella, the Maple-leaf pochette, and the Maple-leaf pond stone. That’s a lot of balloons to shoot down.

Take a look at the gallery above to get a feel for what each item looks like! Not every item is a home run, per se, but these festive items can definitely find an appropriate use somewhere depending on how your island is set up. It’s kind of a bummer that so much of Animal Crossing’s DIY recipes are locked behind balloon popping, but if you have a few hours to spare and want to chill with some laid-back gameplay, maybe that isn’t the worst thing in the world? Though it certainly could be made easier somehow. If you have any questions, please direct them to our Discord community!
