Animal Crossing: New Horizons Direct Announcements – October 15, 2021

Today’s Animal Crossing Direct announced much, much more new content than we thought. Free updates are coming, of course, but there’s also paid DLC coming — and it all releases on November 5. The paid DLC costs $24.99 on its own, but it also comes free as part of the new Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack — which itself costs $49.99 for one year (and one person) and $79.99 for one year (as a family plan). Super expensive, but here’s a full list of new content coming to the game:

  • Brewster’s Roost is back as part of the museum! You can invite villagers and characters via amiibo cards, drink coffee with friends, or just hang out for a while.
  • Kapp’n now appears at the dock! He’ll take players on boat rides to a new type of mysterious island that includes new plants and items. The islands can also be a different season or time of day.
  • Harv’s Island now houses formerly temporary island visitors. This means you can presumably access Redd, Kicks, and others at any time! Furthermore, Reese and Cyrus now appear on the island and can customize furniture that previously was unable to be customized.
  • Town ordinances are back, and they’re the same ones as in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. This means Early Bird, Night Owl, Beautiful Island, and Bell Boom are all back! Though we don’t know what the Beautiful Island ordinance will do.
  • New home exterior options are now available, and new storage expansions will come with it to increase your item holdings to 5,000.
  • Cooking has been added! You can grow tomatoes, wheat, sugarcane, and potatoes, and then you can make dishes with them to eat.
  • You can obtain a Pro Decorating License to hang items from the ceiling of your rooms! You can also use accent wallpapers to make one wall of your room have a different wallpaper.
  • You can now build ten bridges and inclines instead of eight. There are tons of new fences too, and you can finally customize them!
  • There’s now a Pro Camera app with a first-person camera that can be changed to a tripod to put yourself in the picture.
  • 11 new reactions!
  • There’s a new NookPhone app called Island 101 that gives you tips.
  • There’s a new storage shed you can use outside plus an ABD you can place! No more having to return to your island to access your storage and Bells.
  • K.K. Slider has twelve new songs, and you can also get music box versions of them to place around your island!
  • Gyroids are back! You can plant Gyroid fragments and water them and they’ll grow into a full-sized Gyroid.
  • Nook’s Cranny has new furniture.
  • You can now place permanent ladders around your island.
  • Villagers can once again invite you to visit their house or show up at your house like in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons is receiving paid DLC on November 5 that costs $24.99!
    • It’s kind of like Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, and you can go to work on a special island and build vacation homes for villagers.
    • There are partition walls, counters, and pillars, and these can be used back on your island too.
    • There’s a new currency called Poki that you can use to buy exclusive furniture.
    • You can use amiibo to invite villagers to the new island and design houses for them. All design options you obtain on the archipelago can be used on your island, and you can eventually remodel your villagers’ home.
    • Series 5 of amiibo cards including villagers like Raymond, releasing November 5!

Needless to say, there’s a ton of new content here. It’s worth noting that this is the last free content update coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons; fortunately, it contains lots of new things to do and finally brings back the much-desired coffee shop plus even more on top! The update comes out on November 5 and we’ll be covering content for it.
