Things have been pretty quiet in terms of main series Super Mario games lately. In fact, we haven’t received a new game since Super Mario Odyssey in 2017 (if you don’t count Bowser’s Fury, that is). That being said, today marks the beginning of a new step of sorts for the franchise with the reveal of the Super Mario Bros. movie via today’s Nintendo Direct.

Apparently, this movie has been in the works for over seven years and is just now nearing completion. They’ve even got Koji Kondo working on including classic music tracks from the games in the film itself! After some discussion with members of the cast, we get a short preview of the movie revealing voices for Kamek, Mario, Luigi, and Bowser. It’s not a very long trailer, but there will be several more over the coming months. Stay tuned!
