Pokémon Scarlet & Violet are now available, and they’ve introduced lots of never-before-seen Pokémon! As has been the case with recent generations, most of them were never officially revealed and are just being seen for the first time (outside of leaks). We’ve gathered up a bunch of images and names, so if you’re hoping to see pictures and typings for each of the new Pokémon, you’ve come to the right place.
Introduction
Just to be absolutely clear, there are spoilers here! We’ll be going over each of the new Pokémon and their typings via some miniature custom diagrams. That being said, there won’t be any story spoilers of any kind here (unless you count the existence of specific Legendary Pokémon), so you don’t need to worry about that!

Starter & Early-Game Pokémon
First up, we’ve got Scarlet and Violet’s new starter Pokémon! As you can see, Sprigatito becomes Meowscarada, Fuecoco becomes Skeledirge, and Quaxly becomes Quaquaval. These are Grass/Dark, Fire/Ghost, and Water/Fighting-types, respectively. Meowscarada is a fast physical attacker, Skeledirge is a bulky special attacker, and Quaquaval is a frail physical attacker. We’ve got a few other Pokémon to look at here, too!
Lechonk evolves into Oinkologne, whose form changes depending on its gender (male form pictured above). Then you have Tarountula and Spidops, who have low base stat totals but at least learn Sticky Web. In terms of stats, Rellor and Rabsca are nothing impressive, but Rabsca does learn Revival Blessing — a move that revives a defeated ally Pokémon. Then there’s Flittle. Need we say more?
Water-Types Galore
As you can tell from the first row, Scarlet and Violet introduced a whole bunch of Water-type Pokémon. A particular highlight is Finizen, who evolves into Palafin. At first, Palafin looks exactly the same as Finizen, except it’s got a heart on its underside. When Palafin’s trainer switches it out in battle, it transforms into the superhero form you see above next time it’s sent out. Its stats are crazy in this form!
Then there’s Tandemaus and Maushold. The only difference between their base form and evolved form is the number of mice present. Most Maushold will only receive one child, but a small fraction of them receive two upon evolution. Whether or not your Maushold has one or two babies is left up to chance.
Pseudo-Legendaries, Electric-Types, and More
Kicking things off, we have Frigibax, Arctibax, and Baxcalibur, our new pseudo-Legendary Pokémon! As you can see, they’re Dragon/Ice-types. Then we’ve got Tatsugiri and Squawkabilly, two species that come in several different colors. Tatsugiri, in particular, pairs well with Dondozo in doubles — more on that over at our base stats and Abilities guide we mentioned before.
We’ve also got the Pawmi line — which are our first Electric/Fighting-type Pokémon. Somehow, these guys are Fighting-type but Zeraora, Electivire, and Luxray aren’t. Oh well. Pawmot also has access to Revival Blessing, a 1 PP move that revives an ally. Don’t even think about running a Leppa Berry here.
Paldea’s Legendary Pokémon
Not all of these are Legendary Pokémon, by the way — the ones to look for are Koraidon, Miraidon, Ting-Lu, Chien-Pao, Wo-Chien, and Chi-Yu. The latter four are part of a brand new Legendary quartet! As you can see, they’re all part Dark-type. Each of them has an Ability that lowers the base stats of other Pokémon that join the battle. Chien-Pao in particular is going to be crazy strong!
Legendaries aside, we’ve also got two new puppy Pokémon lines: Fidough and Maschiff. Pair these with Greavard, and we’ve got three new dogs in Scarlet and Violet! Gholdengo is the evolved form of Gimmighoul, who has a Roaming Form that only appears in Pokémon GO at a later date. Stay tuned for more info on that!
Paradox Forms and New Evolutions
We won’t linger on paradox Pokémon for too long, because we’ve covered them in greater detail (and with different images) over at our paradox Pokémon summary page. Be sure to check it out if you have a second! As a reminder, the top row is exclusive to Scarlet and the second row is exclusive to Violet.
Scarlet and Violet have also introduced brand-new cross-generation evolutions! In Sword and Shield, new evolutions were only introduced for regional forms of older Pokémon. That’s no longer the case here, though, as it seems any old Bisharp or Primeape can evolve into Kingambit or Annihilape. Yes, there are also several Paldean Tauros forms.
