The term amiibo Buff refers to the automatic stat increase Figure Players receive in Super Smash Bros. 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It has been a point of controversy among casual trainers, who perceive these enhancements as unnatural and unfair to human players.
In Super Smash Bros. 4
At Level 50, FPs receive an automatic 1.5x boost to their Attack and Defense stats regardless of whether or not they were given equipment. Lowering the FP’s Attack and Defense stats to -50 via equipment will nullify the amiibo buff.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The amiibo buff has been noticeably weakened in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. FPs only receive a 1.25x boost to their Attack and Defense stat, once again regardless (and on top of, if applicable) of their Spirit setup. Lowering the FP’s Attack and Defense stats to -400 via Spirits will offset these enhancements (equipment stats scale differently in 4 and Ultimate).
