In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Compared to Ryu, Ken is seen as a direct downgrade; however, he does have a few of his own advantages. Ken’s movement speed is noticeably faster, allowing him to more easily keep up with quicker fighters; his back throw and special moves deal more damage as well.
Unfortunately, Ken suffers from terrible AI; it barely knows how to use its inputs and almost never uses its roundhouse kicks. Furthermore, Ken’s recovery is quite poor, granting below-average distance and leaving him vulnerable to attack. Ken also has a horrific matchup spread, losing to fighters who are faster, have more range, or can gimp him (which winds up being almost the entire cast).
As a result of his crippling flaws, Ken has accrued below-average tournament results and representation. TraumatizedBaconbits is considered the best Ken trainer, and has even won a standard competition with the character. As a result, Ken’s standings have improved, though he is still seen as low-tier.
