Super NES (often shortened to SNES) is Cloud’s Ness amiibo. It is considered the best Ness amiibo in both Super Smash Bros. 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It is at least partially responsible for Smash 4‘s centralizing usage of the Improved escapability skill.
Super NES’ first tournament was Amiibo Dan’s Amiibo World Tournament 3, having been submitted to represent the Amiibo Dojo. It defeated all of its opponents 2-0 and went on to defeat Amiibo Dan’s Ganondorf in Grand Finals. After viewers noticed that Super NES obtained many of its kills using its back throw, they started running Improved escapability so that their amiibo could avoid falling victim to it.
Super NES went on to win several more tournaments, but fell off after the bans of Critical-hit capability and Explosive perfect shield. It also had a rough transition from Smash 4 to Ultimate but has recently found its footing in competitive play and is now considered the best Ness amiibo in every title it has participated in. A full list of its wins is provided below; brackets are included where possible.
Super NES’ name origin is rather simple; Ness’ name is an anagram of “SNES”, the console EarthBound was released on. Super NES references the Super Nintendo Entertainment System as well as the anagram found in Ness’ name.
