amiibo Wiki: Super NES

Super NES (often shortened to SNES) is Cloud’s Ness amiibo. It is considered the strongest Ness amiibo and one of the strongest overall amiibo in both Super Smash Bros. 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It is primarily responsible for Smash 4’s overcentralizing usage of the Improved escapability skill.

History

Super NES’s name origin is rather simple; Ness’s name is an anagram of “SNES”, the console EarthBound was released on. Super NES references the Super Nintendo Entertainment System as well as the anagram found in Ness’s name.

Super NES’s first tournament was Amiibo Dan’s Amiibo World Tournament 3, and was submitted to represent the Amiibo Dojo. It defeated all of its opponents 2-0 and went on to defeat Amiibo Dan’s Ganondorf in Grand Finals. After viewers noticed that Super NES KOed many opponents using its back throw, they started running Improved escapability so that their Figure Players could avoid falling victim to it. Super NES went on to win many more tournaments, but fell off after the bans of Critical-hit capability and Explosive perfect shield.

Super NES had a rough transition between Smash 4 and Ultimate, but has since found its footing in competitive play and is once again considered the strongest Ness amiibo in the format. It places high in a majority of its tournaments; the matches it loses are usually to opposing Zelda, Dr. Mario, or Ridley FPs.

Tournament Wins (17)

In Super Smash Bros. 4, Super NES placed first in Amiibo World Tournament 3, Clash of Champions I, Amiibrawl 4, Amiibrawl 25, and Cloud Nine Flash Fight II. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it won Minor Circuit: 4, Help Me Tournament, Clash of Chumps 4, JWT Tournament #23, Amiibo Strike 3, JSMF #6, Mogu’s Flash Tournament #4, Flash of the Slappers, Oof Time II, Amiibo Weekly #1, Kang’s Birthday Bash 2, and King of the Pond 2.
